A New Year and New Goals

The holiday season has come, and gone……2011 is in the books and we’ve started down the path of 2012. 2011 wasn’t all bad, but it wasn’t a standout year either. Towards the end of the year, I started reflecting on my life, both personally and professionally. A few things came out of the reflection process, as I mentioned.

  1. I decided to change jobs….it’s time to move on to a new set of challenges.
  2. It’s time to quit being normal, and get off my rear end and get back into shape.
  3. Spend more time having fun with my family…enjoying other hobbies that get me away from a computer.
  4. Play my guitars more and dust of my motorcycle.
  5. Work on a development project on my own.

One of the largest hurdles I face is getting organized. I have realized that having my attention diverted across 2 houses, school, work, side projects, and other things has worn me into a frazzle. The week we spent in Wisconsin at Christmas was a week where the speed of life screamed to a halt. I came home relaxed and re-energized. So now I feel that I need to find a way to retain that mindset when I’m not there, however I’m not real sure how to do that….but I’m willing to try.

Why is any of this important enough to blog about? I don’t know….maybe it isn’t, at least in the current format of the site. I think over the course of the next year as I change, or my circumstances change….I think this site is going to evolve with me. The focus will be still be on my transitioning my career and the work I have completed in school, but I think I am going to add little more personality and not just focus on the world of IT.

On the Development front…I have an idea in mind that I want to attempt. My wife has been on my back about tracking vehicle expenses, warranties, part purchases, etc., so that she can keep up with what’s been done. It’s a good idea, but our problem is that to satisfy our need, we really need software for a fleet maintenance.  The problem with that is, we can’t justify spending a few thousand dollars on software like that. My solution? I’ll just write it myself. Or attempt to anyway. So that’s on the horizon as well. At any rate it’ll make up for the lack luster performance in my last class where the object was to create a database driven application. That’s a wholly separate post discussing where that went south.

Anyway, those are the things that are fore front on my mind lately. We’ll see how these goals transition into reality over the coming year. We’ll also check back on this post in January of 2013, just to see if there is a 2013….lol.
