When I started back to college in 04, I had to build myself a new desktop. Now, normally it’s not a cause for celebration but it was also built to be my gaming rig. How did that work out for me? Well, it worked out pretty well until the 4 of July, when that poor pc finally died playing WoW.
Given that I’m at that point in my program where I’m coding a lot, I missed my dual monitors. So it was time to get a new setup. Normally I would just build it, but after doing some price comparison’s I figured out a bought system and a built system cost the same these days. Ironically, I found a steal though.
I went over to the Best Buy and was looking at an Asus setup they had. The fun began when I went to a smaller one to avoid gobs of people. Normally when you walk into Best Buy, you are assualted before you find what you’re looking for. Not this time. It took 10 minutes to get help. Then when I get it, they informed me no one in town had one and they couldn’t sell me the display model. Which just irratated the hell out of me and I left.
After thinking about it some more, I decided to go to the larger Best Buy. Now it’s not that I like Best Buy, but I don’t have any options. When CompUSA, Ultimate Electronics, and Circuit City went belly up that’s all Tulsa was left with. Anyway, once I got over there I was looking at the different displays and deciding what to do. Decided to grab a dell, when I noticed an XPS with 8 GB’s of RAM just sitting there.
Said ok, it’s an i7 with 8 GB’s of RAM, it’ll work. Ya….glad I got to looking. The XPS I founded was on clearance, there was no tag…and the sales people had no clue it was there. Got it home…it has an ATI HD 6770 in it as well. SWEET. I get it unboxed and setup….and for a test, I loaded WoW. 60 FPS in a crowded area.
:-D
HELL YA!!!!!
Oh and it handles Word and Java creation nicely too, lol.
The 24 bit audio …..that was the best part. Something I’ll go into detail about later.
